BCOA NATIONAL SPECIALTY 2006 - 3RD PLACE AMERICAN BRED (Judge Espen Engh, handled by Patricia Wiseman Ostrov Borzoi)
Ch Truhaven Apollo of the Isles is a striking, "studly," heavily marked
tri-color with coat to die for. The result of a long planned breeding
out of Skye's littersister Ch Truhaven's Silk Stockings (L'eggs) with
the last frozen semen straws of her maternal grandsire Ch Karistan's
Zeus of Voltoff, Apollo walked in to Islehaven at 12 weeks and took
command... or at least thought he did!
Apollo is a solid boy -- 33 inches and 105 pounds -- without an ounce
of spare flesh. Both genetically well muscled and very active, he is a
powerful mover and physically developed quite young. His "boy" brain,
alas, was much slower in coming together so he was well into his third
year before he could concentrate enough in the ring to "strut his
stuff" sufficiently well to move from numerous Reserves to gathering
points one or two at a time. At the Western Washington Hound Specialty
in August of 2005, Apollo won his first major (4 pts) handily as WD/BOW
under judge Pamela Peate. In October, he was BOB at Kenniwick, WA.
Though indoor shows have never been his favorite, Apollo placed third
in his large Am Bred class at the 2006 Borzoi National in Olympia under
Espen Eng, finsishing in style a month later with a 5 point major.
Apollo represents a concentration of the English Karistan and
Stillwater lines, with another line to Oaklara. He is an important
part of our breeding plans herE at Islehaven, and we are looking forward
to his contribution to our future.
